Sarim
“Boy, you’ve got a heart of fire.”
Sarim

Mishal was ten years old when he first met demons.
It’s been in his head ever since, taunting, telling him that he’d never be good enough. Whenever he reads the Quran, pangs of pain spring from his head. At the cost of this curse, Mishal also gained the ability to produce weak flames from his hands.
Mishal’s family shuns him for his possession and the demon hates him, but something changes with the arrival of an old man with a white cane. Shayib Ghalib promises to save Mishal, but he can’t do it alone.
Who is Shayib Ghalib? Why is he helping Mishal? Why did the boy’s possession give him the power of flames? Everything is linked to a prophecy which might not come true, and a single mysterious name.
Sarim.
Hazim

He uses his power over fire to protect his team members, eager Salim and young Salwa, even when Mishal knows that they’re not yet ready to fight jinn on their own. When not fighting to protect Oman, Mishal bickers with Asaad Al Nabhani, who has been chosen as Mishal’s boss, and he seeks advice from Eman Al Lawati, who is achieving the remarkable as captain of her own team.
But when Mishal and Asaad discover that an ancient jinni is seeking to possess Asaad, the two vow to stop the possession from happening. Feeling uncertainty deep in his heart, Mishal finds himself confronted with a choice: Should he trust Asaad to take care of this jinni as always? Or will Mishal rise up to help his friend?

Unoriginal Tales: Ten Fantastical Stories From Oman (Free Ebook)
“The sight pulled at him and Laith swerved in his run, going towards a lone object in the distance. An unidentified halo shone on it, and he realized that it was a cane sticking upwards from the concrete.”
Unoriginal Tales

In the land of mountains and cardamum-filled coffee, magic lurks behind even the most urban door.
Unoriginal Tales is a group of ten fantasy stories set either in urban Oman or in a far-off remnant of the beautiful, palm-tree-studded GCC country. A girl must duel for her life in Sultan Qaboos University, a youth escapes the walking dead in the middle of Muscat Grand Mall, and a dragon, cursed with the gift of humanity, roars among the dust-devils.
There is a modern question about our Omani society behind each of these stories, and you may gasp at what you find.
Unoriginal Tales is available via Amazon. If you just want the PDF, you can grab it literally for free here.
